Mobile News: AT&T customers get their due, hacker caught behind massive breach

AT&T customers get their due

The hacker was reportedly arrested last Wednesday.

TL;DR

The hacker believed to be behind the massive AT&T break-in has been arrested.

The perpetrator appears to have stolen data from up to 165 companies.

He is expected to be extradited to the US to stand trial.

It's been a few months, but you may remember the data breach that AT&T suffered earlier this year. It was a massive data leak that affected almost all of the company’s customers. According to a new report, the suspected hacker behind the data breach has now been identified and arrested.

Between April 14 and April 25, a hacker managed to download the call and text data of nearly all AT&T customers. The company reportedly learned of the hack on April 19. AT&T later blamed a compromised third-party cloud platform for the breach. This third-party cloud company goes by the name Snowflake and was reportedly used to attack 165 companies, including Live Nation, Advanced Auto Parts and others.

According to 404Media, the attacker behind all of these attacks is known by the aliases Judische and Waifu. This person has turned out to be a Canadian named Alexander “Connor” Moucka. As the paper reports, Moucka has since been taken into custody. What charges will be brought against Moucka have not been disclosed, but sources close to the matter confirm that Moucka is indeed the perpetrator behind the Snowflake attacks.
