Matt Turner made two saves on penalties and the United States beat Canada in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Gold Cup on Sunday night.
The Americans won the shootout 3-2, after a 2-2 tie after 120 minutes of play. They joined Panama in the semifinals.
In a game in which there was no goal until the 88th minute, the United States tied the game when Canada's Scott Kennedy scored against his side in the 115th minute.
The winner of Wednesday's duel between the United States and Panama will advance to the final of the tournament. Mexico and Jamaica face each other in the other semifinal.
The Americans reached the semifinals of the Gold Cup for the 12th straight time since being eliminated in the quarterfinals in 2000.
Earlier in the day, Jamaica blanked Guatemala 1-0 thanks to a goal by Amari'i Bell in the 51st minute. The defender hit the nail on the head after accepting a pass from Demarai Gray.
