My Mind Is Blown Away by the New AI Photo Tricks on the Pixel 8

I CAN COUNT THE NUMBER OF TIMES my jaw has dropped upon learning about a new product in ALL MY YEARS of researching personal technology devices. Being a skeptic journalist is advantageous! But when Google showed us a few photographic wizardry on its brand-new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro devices, I was unable to retain my objectivity.

If viewed in a vacuum, anyone who is familiar with Photoshop or video editing software may use these functions. However, the new Pixel phones make them available to everyone, which is thrilling and, to be honest, a little frightening. Let's go over them.

This function was hinted at by Google at their developer conference in May. It's a logical development of Google's Magic Eraser, which was released a few years back. The latter enables you to remove undesired elements from your photo, such as a fire hydrant or a background subject. The entire image can be warped to a new level with Magic Editor.

Google displayed a picture of a female running on a beach as part of a demonstration. A spokesman pressed on the issue while using Magic Editor in the Google Photos app, and the tool generated an exact cutout. They could then move the subject around the scene as they pleased, and the software filled up the empty space with what it believed belonged there. Of course, Google selected these images, but Magic Editor accurately filled in the blanks.

Additionally, the lighting of the scene can be altered using Magic Editor. If you capture a shot at midday with harsh lighting, it's simple to switch it to golden hour to obtain those lovely warm evening tones—and maybe even add a sunset!
